Summer is on the way to scheduling an inspection of your car’s AC is important. Are you aware that the air conditioning systems serve to both cool and warm your vehicle? Here is a brief explanation:

  • Cold air for Summer – The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant (aka Freon), turning it into a hot gas. It travels through the condenser where it is cooled to a liquid state and then on to the expansion valve, returning to a low-pressure gas cooling the evaporator. A fan blows over the evaporator and cools the air that eventually flows out your vents.
  • Warm air for Winter – Hot coolant is circulated through a small radiator (called a heater core). A fan blows outside air over the heater core, heating up and then blowing out of your heater vents.

What is included in auto AC service, you ask? Here are the five main components that make up your car’s air conditioning system:

  • Compressor
  • Condenser
  • Receiver dryer or Accumulator
  • Orifice Tube or Expansion valve
  • Evaporator

There are some issues that will prevent air from heating up or cooling down, requiring the services of a certified car AC repair technician.

  • Rust or sludge can clog the air conditioner’s heater core.
  • Level of Freon is too low due to leaking.
  • “Blend Air Door” is stuck in either the open or closed position so that it will only blow either cold or warm air.
  • The compressor doesn’t engages
  • Blocked or broken condenser
  • Electrical problems, such as a blown fuse

Tip to Remember: With summer close at hand, have your car’s air conditioning system inspected by a certified mechanic and have a needed car AC repair taken care of so your vehicle is ready to face the hot days of summer.
