Founded on Quality, Integrity & Experience

It may seem that many of the recommended car service items are fairly expensive. However, consider the cost of a car repair that may be needed because of neglecting a maintenance service item. In other words, it would have been more cost-effective to have paid for the maintenance service rather than waiting until a problem develops and you end up paying a high price for a car repair.

If you've owned a vehicle for very long, insurance and fuel are probably already a line-item in your budget. But if your budget is tight, it is easy to forgo the expense of car maintenance. To help solve that problem, if at all possible, set aside a few dollars each month to cover maintenance or repair items.

So why is car repair so expensive?

  1. Replacement Car parts – the cost of car parts depends largely on who makes them and where they come from.
  2. New Tires – advanced technology means that tires last longer than a few years back, but good quality tires are still expensive.
  3. Brake Pads and Rotors – don’t wait until the brake pads are worn down so far that the rotors are damaged. This will make the cost of a brake job more expensive.
  4. Replacement Fluid Costs – though the cost is relatively low for oil changes, it should be done about every three to six months. The coolant and brake fluid should also be changed periodically. Lack of clean fluids, or too low of a level, will damage the engine or transmission fairly quickly.
  5. Safety Systems – new features such as blind-spot monitoring or lane changing sensors not only make the price of the car higher but also increases the cost of repairs.
  6. New Technology – Features such as touch screens and auto braking not only adds to the price of the car but also to the cost of maintenance.
  7. New Materials being used – The new materials (aluminum instead of steel) being used in cars these days make them more fuel-efficient, but also make them cost more.
  8. Bodywork and paint jobs – To keep your car looking good, you may want to have bodywork done, such as fixing a bent fender or re-painting a panel.

How much you spend on car service will actually depend on the make and model of your vehicle, its age, how many miles you drive each year, and your driving habits. If you take care of the needed car service item as recommended by the manufacturer, you will actually save money by preventing major repairs.
