Why is Regular Brake Service Important?
Most drivers understand that fully functioning brakes are crucial for safe driving. You want to be able to drive your car with confidence, knowing that your brakes will stop the car on that proverbial dime. The key is having the basic brake service performed by certified brake repair technicians on a regular basis.
So why is regular brake service important? To answer that question, just think about the problems and hazardous situations that could happen if you neglect brake service:
- The brake warning light will illuminate as it senses a problem,
- Your brakes will be noisy, squealing, squeaking, and grinding noises when stepping on the brake pedal,
- You will feel wobbling and vibrating in the steering wheel when braking,
- The brake pedal feels “mushy,” going down to the floor in order to come to a stop,
- The car pulls to one side or the other when you step on the brake pedal, and
- Leaking brake fluid is getting onto the hot motor, creating a burning smell.
Unfortunately, there is no set rule as to when brake service should be performed. However, ask your mechanic to inspect your brakes each time you are in for another service, such as an oil change or tire rotation. At that time, your mechanic can inspect the components of your brakes and let you know if some form of brake repair needs to be done immediately, or if your brakes are good to go more miles.
Word of Advice: Don’t wait until you find yourself sliding through stop signs, or worse yet, be the cause of an accident due to bad brakes.
